About The Program

The Growing Workforce Participation Fund develops partnerships with industry to build longevity and sustainability in the workforce. It does this by empowering industry and employers to support job seekers from identified groups who experience greater disadvantage in the labour market.

It is one component of the suite of programs delivered under the revitalised Back to Work initiative, which is designed to give businesses the confidence to employ Queenslanders who have experienced a period of unemployment and help workers facing disadvantage in the labour market.

What does the funding provide?

The fund provides:

  • industry-led solutions to find and keep employees in Back to Work target locations;
  • greater industry-specific support for disadvantaged and vulnerable target groups.

The fund will support industry organisations to primarily support people from the following groups:

  • young people (aged 15–24 years)
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • people with disability
  • culturally and linguistically diverse peoples
  • long-term unemployed people (unemployed 52 weeks or longer).

The fund is administered by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET).

Our Aim

This project aims to address the shortage of Swim Teachers and Aquatic Professionals in Queensland by supporting individuals in gaining employment and creating career pathways for long-term employment and retention in the aquatic industry.

The project will focus on attracting and support various roles within the industry including entry-level Swim Teachers, Pool Lifeguards, Coaches, Swim School managers, Pool Operators, Aquatic Technical Operators and Customer Service Team Members.

Our Deliverables

Support and development opportunities will be offered to both new and experienced employees to foster long-term engagement and retention within the aquatic industry.

Our goal is to place 150 job seekers into entry-level aquatic courses and to support 75 current aquatic professionals across Queensland in undertaking advanced training and extension programs.
